Tanuki

Structure and Conformation

Tanuki is an incredibly balanced, moderate boy overall. He is square in proportion and is nicely angulated in both the front and the rear, without being overdone. In fact, he has received compliments from many judges and peers on his well-assembled front and good amount of chest.

He has well-formed oval feet and strong pasterns. He also has smooth, effortless movement and correct head and tail carriage. This boy's expression is intelligent and curious, with lovely almond-shaped eyes, nice dark pigment, and sufficient under-jaw forming a perfect scissor bite.

Temperament and Personality

Tanuki has a fantastic temperament and personality! He embodies the character of the standard poodle: highly intelligent, biddable, loving and friendly, and always with a sense of humor. He is an incredibly happy boy who simply loves doing things with his person, no matter what it is. He is a highly confident and stable boy who always takes new things calmly in stride. He's polite to strangers, both human and canine, and it doesn't take much for him to decide you're his buddy!

Performance and Sports

Tanuki has medium drive with a great off switch. He's more toy driven than food driven, but still works well for either. He loves rally, weight pull, fetch, and lure sports such as FastCAT and precision coursing, and has eagerly begun training for barn hunt and scent work. In the more distant future we plan to try agility, dock diving, and hunting.
